Hotel Phillips' Artist in Residence
Madeline Gallucci

The Arts have a major influence on the livelihood of any community, but downtown Kansas City has an especially vibrant arts community. Being located in the epicenter of local creativity, we embrace and support those people and organizations who are building our city’s reputation as one of the most brilliant stars on the Arts horizon. The Hotel Phillips was proud to accept the prestigious ArtsKC Impact Award in 2014, and is proud to name our fourth annual Artist in Residence, Madeline Gallucci. You can find her works on display throughout the hotel, and in 12 Baltimore. Please ask the front desk about tours to local art galleries and visiting Madeline's hotel studio.

Madeline Gallucci received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2012 with an emphasis in Printmaking. Since coming to Kansas City, she has traveled and performed with Whoop Dee Doo and shown her work at a wide variety of galleries and venues. Madeline’s work explores, dissects, and reinterprets our everyday environment by means of vibrant drawings, whimsical paintings, and digital prints.

What inspires your work?
“Because of my interest in the overlooked debris of the city, I strive to understand the anomalies of the urban landscape I inhabit. Through my documentation of patterns in cryptic sidewalk markings, window reflections, neon signs and discarded debris, I begin to investigate the ambiguity of what we recognize as mundane. The physicality of drawing, painting, and collage emphasizes the curious nature of my findings, which eventually leads to a transformative vocabulary of these encounters. From these practices I am continually building a new, oddly familiar landscape, in which many of my works become selfreferential, while simultaneously forging a new orientation between the viewer’s experience and my own."
